Brownsville, Texas — Brownsville Artists and Musicians (BAM) is celebrating queer art in the Rio Grande Valley on Friday, Nov. 4 to benefit Aquí Estamos RGV, a queer and trans people of color organization.
The art show titled “Me Vale” will highlight queer art made in the Rio Grande Valley. It include local artists such as Gloria Valentina Reyes, Glori Alvarez, Jessie James, Gustavo Huerta, Victoria Siempre, Josue Ramirez, Eduardo Martinez (Pharr From Heaven), and Rubén Garza.
Aquí Estamos, the organization benefiting from this show, is a youth-led, queer and trans people of color organization in the Rio Grande Valley. Aquí Estamos is best known for organizing the first free lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and queer (LGBTQ) centered conference in the RGV in 2015 and 2016.
BAM is a “collaborative experiment that willingly goes against the grain of the institutionalized arts in pursuit of the marginalized and misunderstood creatives of Brownsville and the surrounding South Texas region,” as described on their Facebok page.
The event will begin at 8 PM at BAM (1045 E Washington St, Brownsville, Texas 78520), has a $5 cover, and is BYOB.
